3 Easy Steps To A New-And-Improved You

Posted by admin on February 7, 2010

There’s no time like the present to drop the things that have been holding you back. There’s no rocket science or drama involved. It all starts in your head.

1. Give yourself a pep talk.
Studies show that simple affirmations help you bounce back from fatigue, pain, and the blues. Telling yourself “I can do this!” or “I’ll have a great day” can sweeten your disposition better than a sugar rush can. In fact, it’s been said that projecting a positive attitude can restructure your brain to enter a state of bliss even when you’re facing a lot of challenges in your life. It would also help if you could write down your affirmations and post them all over home or workspace. You can read these affirmations each time you feel bad about something. You have to constantly remind yourself that you can accomplish great things.

2. Ban whining.
Regularly declaring how much you hate your work, the traffic, the weather, and pretty much all things that are out of your hands won’t do you much good. Negative self-talk accomplishes nothing. You just get worked up and stressed out. Most of all, the people around you will get put off by your rants. Negative statements are difficult to express and even more difficult to listen to. Instead of complaining about the things you can’t change; plan to make the changes yourself. You can opt to move on to friendlier environments, or you can look for the silver lining and bide your time until better things come along. Maybe you and your job are just a poor match.

3. Quit jumping to bad conclusions.
Sure, it’s better to prepare for the setbacks rather than to be too sure of yourself — but you can’t allow your imagined worst-case scenarios to keep you from being efficient. You must focus on specific things that you can control. This way, your anxiety won’t trigger a meltdown caused by your own self-defeating imagination.  Rather than give up when you’re told that you have to revise your work, take it as an opportunity to push yourself to come up with something stellar instead of just playing it safe. Open yourself up to new experiences. Every obstacle can also be a valuable learning experience.

When you set out with a positive attitude, the rest of your life will reflect it in time. It’s all up to you because it really all starts with you.
